Ludwig, the BBC’s breakout comedy-drama, is officially returning for a second series following its record-smashing debut. The show, which premiered in September 2024, quickly became the BBC’s biggest new scripted series since 2022, drawing over 9.5 million viewers within its first month.
David Mitchell reprises his role as John “Ludwig” Taylor, a reclusive puzzle-maker who assumes his missing twin brother James’s identity to solve crimes in Cambridge. Anna Maxwell Martin returns as Lucy Betts-Taylor, Ludwig’s sister-in-law and confidante. The ensemble cast also includes Dipo Ola, Izuka Hoyle, Gerran Howell, Dorothy Atkinson, and Ralph Ineson.
Series 2 will delve deeper into the aftermath of John’s revelation about his true identity, as he continues to serve as a police consultant. The new episodes are set to explore the contents of files connected to Sinclair’s murder and potential corruption within the Cambridge police, while also examining John’s evolving relationship with Lucy.
Filming for the second series is scheduled to commence later this year, with a UK premiere anticipated in autumn 2025 or early 2026. Following the pattern of the first series, which debuted on BritBox in the US six months after its UK release, American audiences can expect Series 2 to arrive on BritBox approximately six months post its UK airing.
