The Long Weekend is a fast-paced, sex-driven comedy that leans heavily into crude humor and outrageous antics. The story follows Ed (Chris Klein), a buttoned-up marketing executive on the verge of a major presentation, and his wild, womanizing brother Cooper (Brendan Fehr), who is determined to break Ed out of his uptight rut over the course of a chaotic weekend.
As Ed struggles with anxiety over his career and personal life, Cooper pushes him into a series of increasingly absurd and inappropriate situations—ranging from failed hook-ups to awkward encounters—all in the name of helping his brother “get back in the game.”
While the film’s humor is definitely on the raunchy and immature side, it occasionally touches on themes of self-acceptance, emotional repression, and the need to find balance between ambition and personal fulfillment.
Chris Klein plays the straight man to Fehr’s unfiltered chaos, and their sibling chemistry carries much of the film’s energy. Though critically panned for its overreliance on gross-out gags and clichés, The Long Weekend may still appeal to fans of mid-2000s buddy comedies in the vein of Van Wilder or American Pie.
It’s not a film for everyone, but those in the mood for a crude laugh with a faint undercurrent of heart might find some guilty pleasure in its 85-minute sprint of wild detours and misadventures.
