Comedian Leanne Morgan may have audiences laughing on stage and her new Netflix sitcom, but it was her charming love story that has fans swooning.

The 59-year-old recently went on a podcast episode of Good Hang With Amy Poehler, hosted by none other than (yep, you guessed it!) Amy Poehler. When the conversation got to the topic of her longtime relationship with husband Chuck Morgan, Leanne dished on the adorably awkward way she met her now-husband and she didn’t miss a beat.

“Give us the meet cute,” Amy said and of, course Leanne delivered her signature comedic wit. Leanne shared that she and Chuck first met while waiting tables at a restaurant called Grady’s. “I always say he was looking like a praying mantis,” Leanne joked, describing Chuck as a tall and lanky guy who caught her eye. After all, at a height of 6’5″ he would have been kind of hard to miss.

Leanne’s first interaction with Chuck wasn’t quite the usual one. She couldn’t avoid commenting on his height and jokingly told him he reminded her of a tree. Chuck’s response? A deadpan “Sorry.” Leanne laughed, “I thought another’s butthole come to work at Grady’s.”

But as it turns out, Chuck had been paying attention. After overhearing Leanne compliment a coworker’s Dooney & Bourke purse, Chuck bought her a brand-new one. Fast-forward 30 years and they’re still going strong! The couple has three children and two grandchildren. Their long-lasting marriage continues to inspire Leanne’s stand up and now, her television work.

The comedian is starring in a new Netflix sitcom called Leanne. Inspired by her real-life experiences, the show follows a Southern grandmother who navigates life after her husband of three decades leaves her for another woman. It promises to be a raw yet hilarious show dealing with heartbreak, healing, and of course, humor. “Sometimes you just have to laugh to keep from crying,” she told Tudum.

Fans flooded the Instagram post of the podcast clip with admiration for Leanne and Chuck’s sweet origin story. “Every moment of this was so deeply funny and earnest ,” wrote one listener. Another person joked about Chuck’s way of showing his interest in Leanne with a comment saying, “ok but hear me out, buying me a purse and then not talking to me sounds like the perfect way to win my heart tbh.” “This episode was perfection,” someone else wrote.

While her new show may center around heartbreak, Leanne’s real-life love story with Chuck proves that sometimes even the most awkward beginnings can grow into something beautiful and long-lasting.
