Bridgerton Season 5 — Netflix’s Regency Romance Expands as Shonda Rhimes Sets Sights on All Eight Children

The glittering ballrooms of Bridgerton are far from dimming. Netflix has already renewed its runaway hit for Seasons 5 and 6, even before the highly anticipated fourth season makes its debut in 2026. Cameras for Season 5 are scheduled to roll in the U.K. by spring 2026, with a likely release in spring 2027.
The fifth installment is expected to adapt To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn, chronicling Eloise Bridgerton’s epistolary romance with Sir Phillip Crane. Meanwhile, Season 4 will spotlight Benedict Bridgerton’s search for love, with filming already wrapped this past June.
Shonda Rhimes’ grand plan: eight children, eight seasons

At a recent on-stage interview, creator Shonda Rhimes confirmed her vision to bring all eight Bridgerton siblings’ stories to life: “Exactly eight. The Bridgerton series is eight children. Violet Bridgerton and all eight of her children married. So every season is a child.”
Her approach frames marriage not just as romance but as power — a “workplace drama” of alliances and futures sealed through choice. It’s a lens that has made Bridgerton not only a global sensation but also the Guinness World Record holder for the most in-demand romantic drama of 2024.
Spinoffs: beyond the Bridgertons

Netflix has already ventured into spinoffs with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Now, Julia Quinn’s Rokesby quartet is being eyed for adaptation. Set in the late 18th century, the series follows the neighboring Rokesby family, with familiar Bridgerton connections woven in.
The Rokesby Novels:
- Because of Miss Bridgerton (2016) — Billie Bridgerton & George Rokesby
- The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband (2017) — Cecilia Harcourt & Edward Rokesby
- The Other Miss Bridgerton (2018) — Poppy Bridgerton & Captain Andrew Rokesby
- First Comes Scandal (2020) — Georgiana Bridgerton & Nicholas Rokesby
A universe still expanding

From glittering Regency soirées to letters filled with longing, Bridgerton shows no sign of slowing. With spinoffs waiting in the wings and new romances unfolding, Shonda Rhimes’ empire may grow well beyond eight seasons — and fans will happily waltz along.
All seasons of Bridgerton are currently streaming on Netflix in the U.S.
