The Gilded Age’s Power Duo to Watch in Season 4 Oscar Van Rhijn and Mrs. Winterton are back—plotting alliances, trading secrets, and stirring scandal. Will their partnership end in triumph, betrayal… or a society-shaking wedding?

The Gilded Age season 3’s finale set up season 4’s most exciting team-up, reuniting Oscar Van Rhijn (Blake Ritson) and Enid Winterton (Kelly Curran). Oscar and Mrs. Winterton first became allies in The Gilded Age season 1, when Enid was still Turner, Bertha Russell’s (Carrie Coon) lady’s maid.

In The Gilded Age season 1, Oscar and Turner each had aspirations within the Russell household. Turner tried to seduce Bertha’s husband, George Russell (Morgan Spector). Desiring a piece of the Russell family fortune, Oscar solicited Turner’s help as an insider in his failed attempt to marry Gladys Russell (Taissa Farmiga).

Oscar and Turner soon found themselves on the outs with the Russells. Mr. Van Rhijn was swindled and lost all of his mother, Agnes Van Rhijn’s (Christine Baranski), money in The Gilded Age season 2. Turner had better luck, rising up in society by marrying the elderly Joshua Winterton (Dakin Matthews). Fortune has now brought Oscar and Enid back into each other’s orbit.

Oscar Van Rhijn & Enid Winterton Back Together Is The Gilded Age’s Most Exciting Team Up

They’re “A Fighting Pair”

Oscar and Enid

Enid Winterton and Oscar Van Rhijn resuming their alliance in a lavender marriage is one of the most exciting developments going into The Gilded Age season 4. Oscar bounced back from his ordeal and was resurgent at the end of The Gilded Age season 3. Back in top form managing finances, Oscar found the perfect wife in Enid, who was newly widowed and had inherited her husband’s fortune and estate.

In Oscar, Enid has an ideal partner. As a widow, Mrs. Winterton has disadvantages, but they are instantly remedied by marrying Oscar, who comes from the Van Rhijns’ impeccable breeding. Oscar is also connected in ways Enid is not, since she was only a servant two years prior. Oscar is also a relief to Mrs. Winterton as someone who knows she was once Turner.

Amusingly, Enid marrying Oscar will make her Enid Turner-Winterton-Van Rhijn.

Both Oscar and Enid have lofty ambitions to “bring the world to its knees,” and they have the means to do it. By getting married and becoming “a fighting pair,” the future Mr. and Mrs. Van Rhijn can combine their unscrupulous savvy. The Gilded Age season 4 is the ideal time for them to climb society’s ladder, especially with Bertha and George Russell’s marriage on the verge of collapse.

The Gilded Age Season 4 Looks To Be Different For Oscar & Enid

Oscar Crying In The Gilded Age

Oscar Van Rhijn spent The Gilded Age seasons 1 and 2 failing to marry into wealth and become a man of stature in New York. After the sudden, tragic death of John Adams (Claybourne Elder), Oscar was without his ex-lover and champion. But Oscar has regained his mojo, and Van Rhijn put his demons to rest when he confronted Maud Beaton (Nicole Brydon Bloom), who stole Agnes’ fortune.

John Adams gifted Oscar a private cottage where Van Rhijn will be free to “be himself.”

Oscar and Enid are also two of the most entertaining supporting characters in The Gilded Age who are ready to ascend high society’s ladder. Mrs. Winterton wants to supplant Bertha Russell, while Oscar’s desires must still revolve around the acquisition of money and power. Most likely, taking down the Russells remains their goal.

Oscar Van Rhijn and Enid Winterton together make The Gilded Age more fun. Oscar is a charming rascal, and Enid has no qualms about taking what she wants. The Gilded Age season 4 needs villains, and the future Mr. and Mrs. Van Rhijn make for a pair of attractive heels.

At the very least, it’ll be a hoot to see how Agnes reacts to her son bringing Enid home to meet his family in The Gilded Age season 4.
